Bush Blue Lake 274

52-60 days. 6-6½” long, rounded, dark green, straight pods with a white seed. Heavy yielder. Slow to form seed and fiber. Stringless. White seeded varieties such as Blue Lake 274 are preferred for canning because the liquid does not discolor and the outer skins remain intact. Resistant to Common Bean Mosaic 1.

Burpee’s Stringless Green Pod

50 days. 5-6” long, rounded, slightly curved pods.

Contender

49 days. 6-7” long, round, slightly curved, light green pod. Stringless and nearly fiberless when young. Produces under adverse conditions. Early and very productive. Resistant to Common Bean Mosaic, tolerant to heat and Powdery Mildew.

Commodore Improved

60 days. 8” long, rounded, slightly curved, medium green pod. Nearly stringless and fiberless. Sometimes referred to as “Bush Kentucky Wonder.” Excellent yields because of extra long pods. Upright vines hold pods well off the ground.  Good for home gardens and local market.

Pinto

52 days. 6½” long, round, light green pod. Vigorous bush, 18-20” tall. One of Texas’ most popular vegetables. Used for snaps, green shell beans, and dry beans.

Roma II

59 days. 5” long, flat, broad, stringless, tender pod. Bush type romano bean. Small, upright bush is easy to pick. Good for home garden, fresh market, or as a dry bean.

TopCrop

49 days. 6” long, round, straight, medium green pod concentrated near the top. Heavy yielder with excellent quality. Resistant to Common Bean Mosaic. Good for canning and freezing.

Dwarf Horticulture (Taylor Strain)

60 days. 5”x⅝”, thick, long, straight, flat, light green pod, changing to tan marked with red at maturity. Buff colored beans with red mottling. Sometimes referred to as “Improved Pinto.” Used mainly as a green shell bean.

Tendergreen

54 days. 5½-6” long, nearly round, tender, dark green, stringless pods. Dark purple seed mottled with tan. Tolerant to Common Bean Mosaic. Good for freezing, canning and shipping.
