PLANTING DATE
• Plant when the soil temperatures are at least 65ºF (usually around April 1). Planting in cold, wet soils will result in slow and erratic emergence at best.
FERTILIZATION
• It is always best to practice a balanced fertility program with nitrogen, phosphate and potash according to soil test, for maximum production of high quality forage. Normally, 50 lbs. nitrogen, 30 lbs. phosphate and 30 lbs. potash is minimum on most soils.
CROP UTILIZATION
• Graze when plants are 18-20 inches tall. • Graze or mow at 3-4 inches for maximum regrowth. • The crop should be utilized before the seed heads emerge from the boot to insure maximum feeding value and highest forage yields.
RECOMMENDED PLANTING RATES
• Dryland, Drilled: 40-50 lbs/acre • Dryland, Broadcast: 50-65 lbs/acre
