The Brown
Mid-Rib trait of HayMaster BMR gives it distinct advantages over conventional
sorghum sudangrass hybrids:
Palatability:
The entire plant is highly palatable and cattle will consume much more of it.
This means that you don’t have to “crowd” your stand with a high planting rate
to force smaller stems. You can use a much lower planting rate of HayMaster BMR
and allow the stems to get big. Cattle will still consume more of the stem than
a conventional hybrid, as well as be able to digest more of it.
Digestibility:
The plant material of HayMaster BMR also has a higher digestibility than a
conventional hybrid. This means that the animal is able to effectively utilize
more of the forage and less is passed through as waste. Lower lignin content
allows the animal’s digestive system to break down the material much more
efficiently. Higher palatability combined with higher digestibility result in
increased weight gains, more plant material consumed and a lower planting rate.
