Spring Wildlife Mixes

 

The components of our wildlife blends have been grown in local food plot trials and were selected based on the following criteria:

•  Preference by deer or birds

•  Adaptation to local soils and climate

•  Drought and heat tolerance

•  Ability to re-grow after being browsed

•  Production of nutritionally-high forage or seed through the spring and summer months

•  Similar seed size and planting depth

 

 

 

 

 

Spring Deer Blend

50 lb bag

  • Mixture of Iron & Clay Cowpeas, Blackeye Cowpeas, Catjang Cowpeas Laredo Soybeans, Buckwheat, Mungbeans and White Game Milo.

 

  • The legumes and grains in this mix provide an exceptionally palatable food source high in protein and energy for deer.

 

  • Designed to give deer a nutritional supplement during stressful summer months, when nutritional needs are high and native browse is lacking.

 

  • Similar seed sizes allow for a uniform blend and planting depth.

 

  • Adapted to a wide range of soil types and conditions.

 

  • Also an excellent source of seed for all gamebirds.

 

Planting Dates:    May-July

 

Rate:     Broadcast  45-50 lbs/acre, or

             Drill 35-40 lbs/acre

 

Depth:   1-1½ inches deep

 

Fertilize and lime according to soil test. 

Use inoculant for best results.

 

 

Spring Gamebird Blend

50 lb bag

  • Mixture of Browntop Millet, Dove Proso Millet, Japanese Millet, White Game Milo, Red-seeded Sorghum, Sesame and Sorghum Almum.

 

  • The varying maturities of the plants in this mix allow the food plot to produce a continuous source of seed to attract and hold game birds for an extended period of time.

 

  • These seeds were chosen for their ability to produce large amounts of seed through the spring and summer months.

 

  • Similar seed sizes allow for a uniform blend and planting depth.

 

  • Adapted to a wide range of soil types and conditions.

 

  • Deer and other wildlife will also browse the plants in this mix.

 

Planting Dates:    May-July

 

Rate:     Broadcast  25-35 lbs/acre, or

             Drill 15-25 lbs/acre

 

Depth:   ½ inch deep

 

 

Fertilize and lime according to soil test. 

 

These mixes are blended according to the basic principles of food plot planting and selection:

Seed size and planting depth compatibility,

Adaptability to local conditions, and

Utilization by wildlife.
